The corner nobody photographs

Sunday Home is a home & lifestyle magazine about the rooms you walk past every day without looking at them.

Most home magazines show you a room you will never have. We are interested in the one you already live in: the sponge by the sink, the lint trap, the outlet with two small buttons on it, the reason your coffee table is dusty again. There is a story behind almost all of it — usually a better one than the room itself.

What we publish

One kind of piece, done properly: a surprising fact about an ordinary part of the home, traced back to where it actually comes from, followed by one thing you can go and do about it in the next ten minutes. Some are history. Some are science. Some are simply upkeep that nobody ever told you about.

We currently have 30 stories, filed by room.

Who writes it

Nora Hale writes the history, the science and the psychology of home, and her column The Overlooked Room. Clara Denton writes color, light, texture and mood — how a room actually feels to walk into. June Callahan ver1 is not a writer: June is the voice you talk to, and June’s page is here. Meet all three.

How the facts are sourced

This is the part we care about most. Nothing goes into a story that we have not read at the source. In practice that means:

Every number, date, quote and study is traced to a primary document — a federal agency, a standards body, a museum, a university, or the published paper itself. We do not cite an article about a study; we cite the study.
Every story ends with a Sources list, and every source is a live link. If we got something from it, you can open it yourself. That list is not decoration.
Every piece is re-checked line by line against those sources before it is published, and wording that hugged a source too closely is rewritten.
Where something is a guideline rather than a law, or a single study rather than a settled finding, we say so inside the story.
Anything involving gas, the electrical panel or structural work is routed to a licensed professional. We will tell you what to look at. We will not tell you to open it.

If you find something wrong, we would genuinely like to know. Tell us on Facebook and we will fix it and say that we did.

What we don’t do

No products, no brands, no shopping links, no affiliate anything.
No sponsored posts.
No scare stories. A safety piece gets the same sourcing as a history piece.
